Unlikely Duos

2 Feb

Pairing Jordan 1’s with a vintage wedding dress… most would view this as an unlikely combination. However, others such as myself would view this as an irresistible fusion. A challenge most face when it comes to fashion is the fear of crossing or combining opposite styles. Let go of that fear and embrace the fact that opposites DO attract.  It is a simple science; opposing cultures introduce new perspectives and spices up the expected for the unexpected.

Shall we examine further? By no means am I saying to just throw a bunch of random pieces of clothing together and it will work…because it won’t. Here are some key factors you must implement when making “opposites attract” when it comes to your wardrobe.

1. Personality. Only combine elements that fit with your personality and mood. Your personality shines through your wardrobe regardless. Ask yourself “Can I rock this with confidence?” If yes, then you’re on the right track.

2. Trusting your eye.  Your eye can clearly see if something does not look right or it does. Add or subtract pieces that accent the key elements in your outfit to make it work. Pay attention to how one thing enriches the other and vice versa.

3. Find one similarity or common theme in each piece or accessory. For example, in my “unlikely duo” I paired a vintage wedding dress with Jordan 1’s     (considered to be a throwback or vintage style sneaker), which share the similarity of a vintage theme. This wedding dress would not look good if I substituted in pair of Jordan 14’s that has a more updated and modern vibe to them. There would no longer be a common theme; the feel would be a complete mismatch.

Point blank: Have fun with your wardrobe. Visit your closet, step out of your comfort zone and take these three key points and execute them with confidence. You will be surprised with how many new and vibrant outfits you can come up with!

Combining a feminine fun feel with Jordan 3 cements and a Bulls Snapback hat. Still sexy and attractive.

L.I.F.E. in 2012

6 Jan

Thus far 2012 has been quite the journey and we are only six days into the year. With a terminal aunt, a friend in a life threatening car accident, and a best friend sick with no answers as to what is wrong …it has been mentally draining. While it is most natural to be down and out I am taking a positive spin on all of these situations and realizing what LIFE and 2012 truly means to me.

Life is not about material things (although always enjoy and indulge in the things you like.. for me sneakers, fashion, and sports). While these things bring temporary joy it is important to still engage or indulge in what brings a smile to your face. However, these are the surface items…dive deeper to what brings happiness for a lifetime.  What LIFE is about (in my opinion) are the relationships we have, memories we make, love and respect.

Love – Always love yourself no matter what. You are the only one that can pave your special journey in life. Love and cherish the important people in your life…they are in your life for a reason and all fill a particular need for your life path. Always remind them what they mean to you.

Integrity – Never compromise your integrity for anyone. Integrity is a strong trait…if you are always honest to yourself and others you will always feel whole.

Faith- Always have faith in yourself and loved ones. You must trust.

Enlightened – Have a well-informed outlook on life. Never assume (it is easy to do), always be aware and give greater knowledge to loved ones or others in your life.

Fashion Designers hit the court & take a feminine twist on sports gear!

28 Oct

Designer, Rachel Roy decided to team up with NBA Superstar Amar’e Stoudamire to create a super trendy and feminine NBA sports apparel line. This is one of my favorite finds of the season. What sporty lady doesn’t want to find some gear that they rock and still have a feminine feeling wearing in conjunction with a spice of masculinity? I have continually been on the hunt for this throughout the years, so when I discovered this collab it was a jackpot for me. In addition, I personally have teamed up with designer of Bella Legs- Shannon Hinkson to create a NBA and NFL sports line of Bella Legs. Oddly enough, our first few designs seamlessly blend with Amar’e and Rachel’s line. Ladies…what do you think?
